The town of Ellenville has a history of brewing beer, taking advantage of a natural spring. Canal Street Ale was created – as a proof of concept – and presented to the Greater Wawarsing Local Development Corp. in the hope of reintroducing craft ale production to Ellenville.
The artwork on the label is a painting from the 1800's showing Ellenville's downtown including the canal used to transport barrels of beer. The painting and typography were chosen to reinforce the history and nostalgia of the product.
